Air Conditioners: Copper Coil vs Aluminium Coil

Air conditioning unit fan uses coils to convert gas refrigerant into liquid refrigerant and vice versa to further cool the room. However, although the functions of the copper coil and aluminium coil are the same, the heat transfer capacity, durability, and corrosion resistance are different. Here, we will introduce the best coil among copper coil and aluminium coil.

What is the difference between copper and aluminium?

Cost

When choosing between copper and aluminium coils, first, consider cost. Copper is superior to aluminium in all respects, but some manufacturers still use aluminium. Why? The only thing is cost. Copper is much more expensive than aluminium. This is why manufacturers are using aluminium coils to lower the price of the air conditioner, allowing more people to offer high-end air conditioners at low or medium prices.

Copper is much less flexible than aluminium. This means that bent and moulded copper coils are much harder than aluminium coils. Therefore, in order to make the same size and shape, it is triple cheaper than aluminium.

Heat Transfer

Copper is better than the aluminium wire coil in terms of heat transfer, and the average copper coil can cool the room faster than the aluminium wire coil. This allows air conditioners to save more.

Corrosion

The rolling roll is subjected to an etching. Although the corrosion of the copper wire coil can be avoided by regular maintenance and cleaning. In the worst case, corrosion can damage the copper coil, but it is economical to repair and reuse. Aluminium coils are affected by electrical corrosion. Corrosion will occur at the joint between the aluminium coil and the copper pipe, causing refrigerant leakage. The worst thing about aluminium coils is that once they are damaged, they are difficult to repair and, in most cases, you will need to replace them with new ones.

Coil Strength

The coil intensity motor is more powerful than aluminium, preferably in copper coils, easy to repair, while the aluminium ring coil is not this. In most cases, it is necessary to damage the new aluminium coil. However, some companies have created the cost cutting of thin copper rolls. This allows high pressure refrigerant to leak and more durable.

Maintenance

Maintenance, the coil is mounted in the condenser, the condenser is outside the home and must face harsh weather conditions, and requires regular cleaning to better performance, operation. Copper coils are strong enough to be subject to weather conditions. Aluminium coils are weak and must be stored in a sturdy cabinet with a cover, which makes maintenance and cleaning of the aluminium coils very difficult.
